Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important representative said the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
